Brief Biography of Queen Hatshepsut

Queen Hatshepsut, born in 1508 BC, was the daughter of King Thutmose I and Queen Ahmose, and the fifth ruler of the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. After the death of her husband, Thutmose II, Hatshepsut assumed the throne as regent for the young king Thutmose III, and then as queen and daughter of the god Amun.

Hatshepsut is renowned for her peaceful and prosperous reign, during which there was significant activity in construction and trade. She restored many ancient temples, including the Karnak Temple and the Deir el-Bahari complex in Luxor, where she built her own temple.

She led major trade expeditions to the Land of Punt (modern-day Somalia) and the Atlantic Ocean, and successfully revitalized mines and quarries in Egypt, including the long-neglected copper mines in Sinai.

Hatshepsut is also one of the first women in ancient history to rule Egypt, succeeding in sending large naval expeditions and expanding Egyptian trade and culture during her era.
